“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”
Hebrews 13: 8 NRSV
When we are overwhelmed with changes and transitions, it is good to remember there are still constants in life. Chief among them, for those of us with Christian faith, is our Lord and Savior. In a world of change, Jesus is always our anchor, and our source of stability.
When we look back over the past, we may be puzzled and frustrated. Why did this terrible thing happen? Why were we so blessed when we felt so undeserving of that blessing? We may never know the answer to these questions, this side of heaven. These days there is an even greater worry about things going on around us- not only in our own lives, but in the world of large. It can be easy to fall prey to anxiety, worry, and helplessness.
The author of Hebrews seeks to remind us that Jesus is someone you can always count on, always. We ourselves can sometimes be inconsistent by our actions or words, but our Lord is never second guessing anything. We can depend upon Him, even when the world is falling apart.
“When the outlook is not good, we should not fret. We need a change of perspective to realize that God sees tomorrow more clearly than we see yesterday.” -author unknown
I find that to be incredibly comforting and reassuring. When I think that only I can steer myself through life, without ever asking for directions, I can easily find myself getting lost, or sidetracked. The Lord is always ready and near to offer guidance. Jesus is my compass, or my GPS throughout life. His directions will always be the same: yesterday, today and tomorrow.
Prayer
God our refuge,
When my life is full of unpleasantness, pain and difficulties, forgive me when I forget to call upon you. I praise You that You are with me, and will continue to be with me through hardships, difficulties, and pain. Remind me to cast all my cares upon You, and not to fall into the trap of anxiety and worry in our ever-changing world. Thank You for endless love and forgiveness. I am humbled that You care about every detail of my life. May I serve You with consistency and faith, showing others that I trust in You in all things. I pray this prayer in the name of Your son, and our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Amen
