How blessed the man you train, God, the woman you instruct in your Word. If God hadn't been there for me, I never would have made it. The minute I said, "I'm slipping, I'm falling," your love, God, took hold and held me fast. When I was upset and beside myself, you calmed me down and cheered me up.
Psalm 94: 12, 17-19
The entire chapter of Psalm 94 contrasts good and evil. For much of this Psalm, the Psalmist is frustrated with all of the evil in the world. In fact, one title for this Psalm is “A Prayer for Vengeance”!
Yet even in the face of the Psalmist’s frustrations, he sees God’s faithfulness shine through. The Psalmist expresses confidence and knows from experience that God’s blessings will follow both him, and all those who study God’s word. This is still true for men and women trained and instructed in studying God’s Word today. In other words, this promise is for all of us.
The Psalmist also knows that in spite of getting worked up and angry about the temporary triumphs of evil, God will ultimately address every situation, in His time. God will speak to our hearts, and take hold of us when we reach for Him. As the Psalmist assures us, God will calm us down, and cheer us up.
Are you frustrated or discouraged about anything right now?
Are you worried or angry with the way things are going in the world?
If so, then perhaps the promise of this Psalm is for you!
This passage tells us to reach for the Lord, right this minute. God doesn’t want us to wait an hour, a day, or a week. No! God wants us to go right to Him, the very moment we are concerned. The Lord is waiting and ready to grasp us and hold us. He longs to comfort us. Life may still be difficult, and hardships may still occur. Yet we do not have to through any of these trials alone. God wants to take our hand. It is up to us to reach for His.
Seek the Lord through individually studying scriptures, through group bible studies, through fellowship with other believers, and by reaching out to Him in prayer. The Psalmist states that if God had not been there for him, he would never have made it. Well friends: it is exactly the same for us! We are blessed to have a partner through every step of our journey, grasping His firm and steady hand, as he guides us toward the light...
Prayer
All-knowing God,
You hear our frustrations. You even know them even before we speak them. Yet You do not reject us, or put us off. Instead, You listen to us, and minister to our troubled hearts. May we study Your word, where we can find Your blessings for our lives. Let us not remain stuck in negative emotions. Instead, let us find comfort, cheer, and hope in You. We pray this prayer in Jesus’ name. Amen.
