Devotional: October 28, 2021

Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out; you formed me in my mother’s womb. I thank you, High God—you’re breathtaking! Body and soul, I am marvelously made! I worship in adoration—what a creation! You know me inside and out, you know every bone in my body; You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit, how I was sculpted from nothing into something. Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth; all the stages of my life were spread out before you, The days of my life all prepared before I’d even lived one day.

Psalm 139: 13-16 The Message

Each one of us is a miracle. We rarely consider how remarkable it is that we are here, living and breathing up this earth. Every single part of us is a miracle. If you have ever watched someone creating something with yarn, you get an even better idea of how intricate each of us is. The whole concept of God knitting us together in our mother’s womb is a wonderful vision. It is beyond our imagination!

.

Jeana and I have a fresh appreciation for God’s miraculous creative power as new grandparents. It was almost 33 years ago when we first became parents, and the amazing reminder of every detail that God creates is renewed. To see how small Logan is, and yet realize he is a complete human being- a child of God: it takes our breath away! Through our own experience, we know the incredible transformation which will occur throughout his life as he grows up. We praise God not only for Logan’s birth, but also for the way in which he is growing and changing each and every day.

As we watched our daughter-in-law’s pregnancy, we knew that our God already knew Logan inside and out. As this passage says, the Lord is breathtaking, and worthy of our worship and adoration. We thank God for his creative power which formed each and every one of us. As we watch Jonathan and Kristin care for Logan, we know that our Lord is there to care for us, through every stage of our life. Like King David, may we always be ready to celebrate the miracle of life, never taking it for granted. May we all see each person as Your unique creation, and Your child!

Prayer

Creative God,

I praise you for each and every gift of life You create. As I walk through life, may I remember that you are always with me on my journey. Help me to remember to reach out to you, and to take your hand daily. Forgive me when I neglect to give you credit. I ask that you will keep my heart fresh with awe, for each day, and each miracle you create. I pray this prayer in Jesus’ holy name. Amen.
