Do you think anyone is going to be able to drive a wedge between us and Christ’s love for us? There is no way! Not trouble, not hard times, not hatred, not hunger, not homelessness, not bullying threats, not backstabbing, not even the worst sins listed in Scripture:
They kill us in cold blood because they hate you.
We’re sitting ducks; they pick us off one by one.
None of this fazes us because Jesus loves us. I’m absolutely convinced that nothing—nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, high or low, thinkable or unthinkable—absolutely nothing can get between us and God’s love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us.
Romans 8: 35-39 The Message
The subject of today’s devotional is “nothing.” I know that sounds strange. Yet the Apostle Paul offers us the reassuring truth that absolutely nothing- not one single thing- can get between us and the love of God.
There are zero degrees of separation between us, and God’s love. To put it another way: God loves us enough that He will never separate us from His love.
God loves us so deeply, and so completely, that His love is sort of like our safety net. Whenever something goes wrong in life: job difficulties, relationship problems, health struggles, unexpected bad news, betrayal by a friend, or hard times. No matter what it is, these things may knock us off our feet momentarily, and we may even lose our balance for a time. Yet ultimately, God’s love is there to catch us. It undergirds everything.
Another way to look at this truth is to see that the reverse is also true. In other words, if nothing can separate us from the love of God, then God’s love will get us through everything. Every single thing! Every single thing. Even pandemics. Even economic recession. Even record high unemployment. Even epic loneliness. God’s love gets us through it all.
If the love of God the Father was enough to get Jesus through His death on the cross, then it can surely get us through every trial and difficulty we face in this life. We may be shaken by scary events around us, and heartbroken over tragedies, but the reassuring truth is that nothing will separate us from the love of God. Let me say that again- NOTHING can separate us from the love of God through Christ. Amen and Hallelujah!

God of unstoppable love,
Thank you for Your unconditional love. When we feel undone by the world, and at the end of our rope, we turn to You. What we always find, without fail, is Your love. Thank you for sustaining us with Your love, through anything and everything. With grateful hearts, we pray this prayer in the name of the One who is love, Jesus Christ. Amen.
