Trust God from the bottom of your heart;
don’t try to figure out everything on your own.
Dear friend, guard Clear Thinking and Common Sense with your life;
don’t for a minute lose sight of them.
They’ll keep your soul alive and well,
they’ll keep you fit and attractive.
You’ll travel safely,
you’ll neither tire nor trip.
You’ll take afternoon naps without a worry,
you’ll enjoy a good night’s sleep.
No need to panic over alarms or surprises,
or predictions that doomsday’s just around the corner,
Because God will be right there with you;
he’ll keep you safe and sound.
Proverbs 3: 5, 21-26
Proverbs provides wise counsel for all of us, especially during these strange and anxious days.
It is reassuring to know that we don’t need to have everything figured out, because we trust in a God who knows everything. Every single thing! Every detail! We don’t even know what we don’t know, but we can relax in the Lord’s care.
Even when we face unpleasant surprises, they are not surprising to the Lord! The Bible reminds us, time and time again, that God specializes in surprises. Therefore, we really can sleep well at night! (And maybe take an afternoon nap, as well!).
Others may be far more anxious than we are. Sometimes, the littlest thing sends them into a panic! It may seem to us like their lives resemble the headlines on the news tabloids at the supermarket: Everything is always a crisis! Time to get alarmed! We are doomed!
When the world tells us to panic, it is time for us to turn to God’s word. The Lord calls us to faith, not fear. Trust, not terror. God cares for us, and is not careless in the way He approaches us. Remember, he even numbers the hairs upon our heads. That is attention to details!
When our health, safety or other parts of our lives seem to be in question or turmoil, God is still with us. He will keep us safe and sound!
These pearls of wisdom from the Book of Proverbs are reassuring words for not only these days, but for every day. May God bless you all with abundant trust in Him.
Prayer
Loving Lord,
Whenever the world tells us to panic, and when people start to panic, calm our hearts. Remind us to trust in You, and to act with common sense. When the world is alarmed, help us to sleep soundly at night. We know that You will be watching over us, and our entire world. We can trust You in all things, at all times, and in every situation, for You truly hold the world in Your hands! We pray this prayer in the name of Your son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
