When they had crossed over, they came to land at Gennesaret and moored the boat. 54When they got out of the boat, people at once recognized him, 55and rushed about that whole region and began to bring the sick on mats to wherever they heard he was. 56And wherever he went, into villages or cities or farms, they laid the sick in the market-places, and begged him that they might touch even the fringe of his cloak; and all who touched it were healed.
Mark 6: 53-56 NRSV
What makes Jesus so special? This story from the scriptures tells us one of the many reasons why the crowds clamored for Jesus. Throughout the region there were countless people in need of physical healing. Physical healing can often turn into spiritual healing. News of Jesus’ arrival by boat into that region created a frenzy. Hundreds of people rushed to see Jesus.
Yet the miracle is that Jesus does not ration himself. He does not limit his healing power. He healed all who were brought to him. Jesus did not need to spend countless hours with each individual. He knew that when they reached out to him, they were doing so with the knowledge, faith and belief in Him. When they only touched the fringe of His cloak, they received Jesus’s healing power because they believed.
The Lord is powerful enough to heal whatever it is which ails us, regardless of what it is: a mental, physical, or emotional problem. The Lord will provide healing for us. Sometimes this restoration may not occur while we are here on earth, but when we join the Lord in heaven. There, He promises that He will restore us completely.
The faith and belief in Him is what will carry us through any pain and trauma. We need to remember, though, that we are not going through any of our struggles alone. When we ask the Lord, He is always walking with us. Sometimes, He carries us. The promise of His healing powers when we join Him in heaven are what we must cling to for ourselves, and for those we love. Those who have left this earth and have joined our Lord in heaven are healed. They are no longer in pain. The Lord keeps His promises.
Whenever the brokenness of the world overwhelms you: bring it to Jesus. His healing power can sustain you and comfort you. The Lord will never run out of love for any of us. He has enough for everyone. Jesus is one who loves without limits, and heals all who reach out to Him.
Prayer
Lord, You are the great physician. Thank You, Lord, for Your promise to restore me and those who know You, when we join You in Heaven. Forgive me when I am not patient, and get angry with Your timing. lt is so difficult to feel helpless. Comfort me, and give me the patience to persevere through life’s struggles. Help me to lead others to understand Your faithfulness, even while I, too, am struggling. Thank You for Your great promise, for You love me through every step of life.
Faithfully I pray these words in Your holy name, Amen
