Nothing, you see, is impossible with God."
Luke 1: 37 The Message
These words of the angel to Mary remind us of the limitless possibilities available with God. Mary had been told by the angel that she would give birth to a son, who could become our Lord and Savior. Astonished by this news, she asked the angel-messenger “How can this be?” The angel answers with these words.
With the Lord, the impossible becomes possible. There is literally nothing in the world God cannot do. We can never box the Lord in. He will always surprise us, and often does, usually when we least expect it.
One interesting paraphrase of this verse is, “Faith does not make things easy, it makes them possible.” Many things are possible, but few are easy. Yet at least when God is in the mix, the sky is truly the limit!
These days, we seem to live in a world of “easy”. If it is too difficult, or does not go our way, some are quick to discard the possibility of God intervening and changing things, or making things possible. People put artificial time limits on God’s interventions. I can almost see someone looking down at their watch, tapping it, pointing at it, and then looking at the Lord with a raised eyebrow. Patience seems to be a missing ingredient for many personalities in our world.
Some people seem to be quick to remind us of our physical limitations or shortcomings in the world. It seems as though everything is stacked against us, including all the reasons why something is NOT possible. Or the probabilities on why a certain good idea will NOT work! The pessimism of the world can seep into our souls... if we let it.
Yet our physical limitations are overruled by our spiritual abilities with the Lord. God reminds us of the fundamental, life-changing truth: with Him, all things are possible.
Therefore, the next time you are discouraged, or depressed, or feel hopeless, remember that our Lord is one who said, “Fear not! I have overcome the world!” Ever since the angel spoke those words to Mary, we know that all things are all possible with the Lord. Not just some things, but all things. With God, His timing is perfect, and the impossible becomes possible. Therefore, rejoice and find peace in this promise.
Prayer
Lord, I come before You with a heart of thankfulness. I realize that sometimes I put limits on You, and feel like You may not be paying attention to my needs. Give me the patience to realize that Your timing, and my timeline may not match up. Help me to find comfort in Your eternal promise that with You, anything is possible.
I pray this prayer in Your Holy name. Amen
